When pipes are inspected
An inspection is the quality assurance of a new pipeline: it shows that the pipe has been installed according to plan before it is finally covered and taken into use. For the contractor it is a handover inspection, for the client an acceptance inspection.
The requirement usually comes from the contract, the client's quality requirements or the water utility.
- Contract handover. The contract or the client's quality requirements call for an inspection.
- Connection to the network. The water utility may require an inspection report before connection.
- Inspection during works. Defects are found before paving, while repair is still easy.
- Warranty inspection. An inspection before the warranty ends shows whether the pipeline has stayed in good condition.
- Acceptance of relining. The quality of a lined or coated pipe is verified by inspection.
What we check
What the inspection covers
The inspection shows the installation quality from inside the pipe: exactly the defects you cannot see from the edge of the trench and that become expensive later.
-
Joints
Displacements, gaps and dislodged seals that let water leak.
-
Gradient
Reverse gradients and sags where wastewater and solids are left standing.
-
Deformation
Ovality and dents, which often appear only during backfilling and compaction.
-
Manhole connections
How pipes connect to manholes: tightness, level and any protrusions.
-
Branches and connections
Location, direction and installation quality of branch connections compared with the plan.
-
Construction debris
Stones, concrete and other material left in the pipe that would block it in its first year.
How it works
On your site's schedule
The best time to inspect is when the pipes are installed and the trench is backfilled, but before paving. Deformation caused by backfilling is then visible, and repairs can be made without breaking the pavement.
-
Initial data
Plans, manhole numbering and the client's reporting requirements. The report format is agreed before the inspection.
-
Manhole to manhole
Each manhole section is inspected separately. The gradient is measured during the inspection.
-
Observations recorded
Every deviation is recorded with its chainage and images, so that repairs can be targeted precisely.
-
Report with video
A report for each manhole section with gradient profiles, and videos of the inspection, within a day.
Report
A report your client accepts
Clients and water utilities have their own requirements for report content and format. Tell us about them when you order, and the report is prepared to match them from the start.
- Sections per manhole length: length, material and diameter
- Gradient profile for every section
- Observations with images and chainage
- Videos of the inspection
- Coding according to SFS-EN 13508-2
- Delivery within 24 hours, in English by default

FAQ
Questions about pipe inspection
How quickly do I get the report?
The inspection report with video is delivered within 24 hours of the inspection.
Do I get a video of the inspection?
Yes. The videos are delivered with the report, and the report also includes images of every observation with its location.
When should a handover inspection be done?
When the pipes are installed and the trench is backfilled, but before paving. Settlement and deformation caused by compaction are then visible, and defects can be repaired without breaking the pavement.
What does CCTV mean in pipe inspection?
CCTV (closed-circuit television) is a closed camera system. In pipe inspection, the camera image travels along a cable to the operator's screen and is recorded for the report.
Does the pipe need flushing before the inspection?
If sand, sludge or other material has been left in the pipe, yes: the camera cannot see the pipe wall through it. We assess the need for flushing in advance and flush the pipe ourselves.
Is the report accepted by the client and the water utility?
The report is prepared according to the client's requirements. If the client or the water utility has its own report template or file format, tell us when you order.
How much does pipe inspection cost?
Pricing is case by case: an hourly rate or a fixed price. The price is calculated from the drawings, based on the number and length of the sections and the number of site visits. Contact us and send the drawings.
